Jelena Rosich

Jelena Rosich (November 3, 1969 Kikinda, Serbia) is a writer of short stories. She graduated from the University of Novi Sad in English Language and Literature in 1992, and immigrated with her family to the United States in 1998.

Her first book of short stories "Dalilin prsten" was published in 1993 (Matica Srpska, Novi Sad) and her second book of stories "Dan kada je Miz Lili postala ono sto je oduvek bila" (Arhipelag, Beograd 2012) won the award "Stevan Sremac" for the book of the year in Serbian language.

Jelena's work is included in several anthologies of short stories such as "Mala kutija" by Mihajlo Pantic (Jugoslovenska knjiga, Beograd 2001), and "Tajno drustvo" by Vasa Pavkovic (Kov, Vrsac 1997).

She lives with her husband and four children in Mequon, Wisconsin.

George Vukasin

Former Oakland City Councilman, Vice Mayor, Port Commissioner, and President of the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Board of Directors George J. Vukasin passed away peacefully in his home in Alamo on Monday, Feb. 15, just a few weeks short of his 83rd birthday.

Mr. Vukasin was CEO of Peerless Coffee and Tea, the pioneering Oakland coffee roaster that made craft roasting popular long before Peet's and Starbucks were born. He was an early force of the Specialty Coffee Association and served several effective terms as the President of the National Coffee Association. During that time, he was awarded the country of Colombia's highest honor, the Manuel Meija Award, named after the father of the Colombian coffee industry, for the work he did to elevate Colombian farmers out of poverty.

On The Holy Liturgy

The Divine Liturgy is at the center of Orthodox Christian life. It is through the Eucharist that the faithful are united with Christ and therefore with one another. Every Eucharistic gathering is an image and a reality of the Heavenly Liturgy, i.e. unceasing Synaxis of angels and saints around God’s throne. Thus the Liturgy is the proclamation of and a real image of God’s Kingdom in this world.

In this television interview conducted by the Logos, a renowned Orthodox theologian and retired Bishop of Zahumlje and Hercegovina, his Grace Atanasije, brings forth these essential points citing historical development of the Liturgies bringing to light the present misunderstanding of certain Liturgical actions and movements.

Bishop Atanasije aptly points out the necessity for Liturgical renewal, i.e. moving away from passive liturgical attendance to active participation and immersion of the soul and body into a full communion with Christ.
